School Daze

This first day of school is different than the last couple of years.  This one is quiet.  This one is calm.  This one is just one, and as I woke up our daughter, our 16 year old junior in high school daughter,  I will admit I felt the welling up of tears....missing the troop of boys that made our house shake as they all rolled in before school started each day for years and years....

But I'm going to embrace this change.  Finally, the baby of our family, brothers little shadow, finally she gets to have our undivided attention, be the center of our circle on a first day of school.

After the numerous hugs and kisses she got today as she left the house, I'm not sure she'd think that kind of focus is a good thing!

This post inspired by prompt #4 at Mama's Losin' It!

  1. Oh Michelle, I feel for you! Each new school year makes a mom think how quickly time passes and how our little ones are growing up! I hope your daughter has a great school year!

    1. So true! Wasn't it just yesterday that they clung to my hand as we walked into kindergarten?

    1. She's liking school so far, and is enjoying being the star attraction in the dinner conversation "what did you do today?"!

  3. We're going through the same thing at our house! My daughter is a freshman in high school, and my son just started his freshman year in college. And his move-in date was the same as her first day of high school. Which meant we had to divide and conquer. Now I'm still trying to get used to having only one child in the house. My daughter, however, is thoroughly enjoying her "only child" status!

    1. It's a weird adjustment for me, after having so many kids always at our house! It's definitely quieter!
