Most Days

Most days, I'm happy that my kids have so many great friends.  Most days, I'm thrilled that our house is the hang out place.  Most days, I'm pleased that our home is an open house and friends are in and out like immediate family.

Most days, I like it.

But the other days, I'm not as happy, thrilled or pleased.  Days when I walk into our all ready messy, cluttered and hard to use mud room/laundry room/back porch and see this:

I know that bikes have a chance of being stolen here at our house (last count: 5 stolen), and I do not want another one to be taken, especially a friend's bike, I squeeze my way around the bike to get to dog food, shoes, and laundry.

This is actually the second day of the bike hanging out in the house.  Today is not most days when I'm happy, thrilled and pleased.  Today, I'm kind of wanting the bike to get back to wherever it should actually be!

But I also know that the owner of this bike is days away from moving out of state, and this bike won't be in my way too much longer.....I'm just going to let it hang out as long is it can.  The owner is welcome to do the same.

  1. Ah, I know what you mean in here, Michelle. It’s really sad (yes, I’ll use that word ;) ) sometimes when you see ‘clutter’ and you can’t do anything about it. Sometimes, you can choose to ignore but there are times, really, that you can’t. My kid is only two years old at the moment and there aren’t that many play dates yet so I don’t have a problem in that area. But I have a lot of nieces and nephews visiting as most of them are living just a few blocks away. And well, I have a back porch that has become the place for their toys, two inflatable small tents for kids, and other things they can think of bringing when they want to play. It’s really awesome as my son is really having fun playing with his cousins. But you know, since I am the owner of the house, I tend to clean the mess most of the time. ;) And sometimes, I can’t even start to clean as they are always there. I’m happy coz they choose to be there all the time, and relieved that they aren’t playing anywhere else. There are just times, as you mentioned here, that, well, you know, we could all use a clutter-free environment.

  2. I'm kind of feeling the same way! I go down to my daughter's room and want to scream and run out - - then I remember that she is going back to college in a couple of weeks. And all of a sudden the bedroom mess doesn't matter anymore.

    1. Exactly! I try to remember this time is too precious to fight over dirty clothes or bikes in the laundry room. Soon enough, my house will be too spotless and I will miss those messy irritating things too much!

  3. Somedays I too am happy to let the house clutter up as it usually means we are too busy having fun. Today is not one of those days and I am so tempted to bin it all!!!

I could use a little of your tolerance right now ;-)

  4. Five bikes?! Is there some sort of bicycle fencing mafia in your neighborhood?!

Sorry. I just stuck at that. You're a good, patient mama. That's why all the kids are storing their bikes at your house.

    1. Thank you! That's not to say I haven't yelled at all of them (the chocolate milk mess sprigs to mind) but for the most part, all these extra kids know our house is open for them, anytime, day or night.
