Absence Makes Fonder

It's so true what they say: absence makes the heart grow fonder.  I was very aware of this truth when our kids were younger and my husband and I would seize a chance to leave the babies at home and go out to dinner.....it didn't matter if before we left, we were ready to tear our hair out over those lovely terrors, by the time we got home, we missed them terribly.

With these older kids, when they roll in from a day of work or return from an extended sleepover, I am so glad to see them!  I want to hear all about their day, I want to sit with them and have milk and cookies, I want to hug them tight....

I am very aware of their away times, and I am very aware that these times are preparing me for the longer haul of college.  I'm not ready!  And that's all I have to say about that.

Except, making cookies is on my to do list for tomorrow.

  1. When my kiddos were little I always said I was preparing them to leave the nest and for me to let them go. It is very hard to do for sure but they will fly and you will be so very proud of them. Mine are 32 and 27 now and the 32 year old is getting ready to give us the first grandchild (girl). What waits for them now can be amazing.

  2. Mine are still young, but I'm not ready for all that either.

Enjoy your milk and cookies time with the kids!

  4. I too feared the separation from my three sons. However, with this wonderful tool called email, and computers being what thy are, I actually found that communicating with my sons improved dramatically when they went off to college, even if I was not able to see them for months at a time. Very comforting, I can assure you. Good luck!

  5. Awww, I know your heart. There is a grieving that occurs when our kids grow up. They return from college different. But, there is a new relationship ahead of you...once they are adults, then you become friends, instead of solely parent/child. And that is a blessing too!

  6. Never more a saying so true. For personal reasons my son and daughter have shunned me , Oh how I miss them and of course the grandchildren.

  7. Absence does make the heart grow fonder. I have become painfully aware of that over the last month or so. I have been away from my babies a lot it seems and missed them terribly, we are having new bed delivery issues so am sellping apart from the other half and quite frankly it is weird and I have also started a new job and miss my old work pals more than I thought I would.

I figure the missing of your kids never gets any easier! Hope you enjoyed your cookies ;-)
