When Doughnuts Are For Dinner

This past week, my kids got a hungering for Krispy Kreme doughnuts.  We hadn't treated ourselves to those glorious glazed pastry perfections in ages and they desperately wanted me to drive them north 30 minutes to the Krispy Kreme in our backyard.  I said that since my son has his driver's license, he could drive up there any old time he wanted.

So it was settled.  They would wait until I or my husband was able to go too.

Then yesterday, my son decided he would drive there himself.  =)  He went online to get the address and came back to us with distressing news.  Our local Krispy Kreme is closing!  As of today, at 4pm, we will no longer be able to zip up north to satisfy our Krispy Kreme craving.....

That settled dinner plans.  Doughnuts for dinner, with tall glasses of milk, until we pushed away from the table, full or in the case of two teenage boys, over-full.  And it was very good.

My  husband loves to tell the story of eating ice cream for dinner once when he was a kid and I always hoped our kids would have that kind of story to tell their own they do.

  1. Now I'm hungry for Krispy Kreme!
We have pancakes and bacon fairly often for dinner. But now I think we're going to have to have a doughnut night. Thanks for the idea!

Also, I love your post about your daughter reading a book you had just finished. Sweet

  2. Thanks Patti! We do love breakfast for dinner, but we've never had doughnuts before. It was so crazy and fun and I loved it.

My daughter and I have already been book club discussing the book, as she finishes a section, she wants to ask me what I thought of it. I love having kids who love to read!

  3. What a great concept, to have a dinner for the sake of having a story to hand down. I think my "special meal" would involve vast unlimited quantities of chocolate zucchini cake, with chocolate chips. That would be it, except for the iced cold milk.

  4. Way to go mom!! I love doing fun things like that!
I love Krispy Kreme. It's one of the reasons I gained 65 pounds when I was pregnant with my son. Uh yeah, I did.

  5. Mmmm, Krispy Kremes. The nearest one to us is almost 2 hours away, though, so it's definitely a pretty rare treat.
